Hart County Schools maintain a population exceeding 3,000 students among their eight schools. Hart County Georgia offers more than 230 educators to help students reach their potential and strive to be responsible citizens in their community. Hart County Schools pride themselves in their outstanding teacher to student ratio in the classroom of 14.9 percent, which is lower than the state average. Evening classes are offered for adults at Hart County High School, North Georgia Technical College, and Truett-McConnell College at Cleveland.

North Georgia Technical College is located in Clarksville Georgia, north of Hartwell. The two-year technical college, whose mission is to provide quality technical education, adult literacy education, continuing education, and business and industry training to those who may benefit. The college offers both traditional and distance learning opportunities to its students in which they may obtain a certificate, diploma or associates degree depending on their training.

Truett-McConnell College at Cleveland is a Baptist affiliated college that prides themselves with the reputation of a small college that promotes disciplined scholarship and Christian discipleship. TMC is a private two-year, Christian college of liberal arts and sciences. Truett-McConell College is located among more than 200 acres of prime mountain land a mile east of the town square in Cleveland Georgia.

There are also colleges and universities within commuting distances. Clemson University, located in Clemson South Carolina is a short 43-mile drive from Hart County. Emmanuel College at Franklin Springs is also nearby, a 20-mile drive. The University of Georgia in Athens Georgia is also a commuting distance of 41 miles from Hartwell.
