Not only does the beautiful scenery attract
homebuyers to the area,
but also the wide array of North Georgia Festivals and parades draw
more and more individuals to the foothills of the Blue
Ridge Mountains each year. Hartwell Georgia’s landscape allows for
various outdoor activities and annual North Georgia Events. Stated
below is just a small collection of the festivals and
events that Hartwell has to offer its residents and
visitors.
The annual Hartwell Antique Boat Festival is held in the
spring, and attracts exhibitors from all over the Eastern United
States and Canada to the Hartwell Marina. The Blue Ridge
Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society, Hart
County Chamber of Commerce, and Hartwell Marina are
sponsors of the event. More than 50 classic boats are
showcased on beautiful Lake Hartwell. The classic
wooden boats date as far back as the 1920’s. Other
happenings at the festival include “Crusin’ the Lake,”
concessions, and “Paint a Boat” booth for children. Come
out for a great day on the water!
Spring continues with the annual Challenge of the
Centuries Bike Ride that begins in Hartwell Georgia, and
concludes at the Georgia/South Carolina border. The
event is open to cyclists and accomplished skaters
alike. Cyclists have the option of 35, 62 and 100 mile
loops. The Saturday ride leads participants across the
dam on Lake Hartwell, regardless of their chosen route.
Participants are encouraged to camp inside the middle
school gym, pitch tents outdoors, or stay at any of the
local hotels.
The Pre-Fourth of July Extravaganza is always a hit for
families across the foothills of the Blue Ridge
Mountains. The square in Hartwell Georgia is decorated
with booths displaying arts and crafts of local artisans
while entertainers fill the air with great sounds. The
event is kicked off with the crowd-pleasing parade that
allows children to honor soldiers. The evening concludes
at the Big Oaks Recreation Area on Lake Hartwell with
community band concert and fireworks. This event is
designed for the children of the community, and brings
more and more firework enthusiasts each year.
Lake Hartwell Dam Run is an annual event that has been
taking place for more than 30 years. The Hart County Chamber
of Commerce and the Hart County Running Club sponsor the
Dam Run that provides participants with a scenic view of
northeastern GA during their run. The shotgun sounds at
the Big Oaks Recreation Area, just north of Hartwell
Georgia. Participants have the option of choosing the
5K, 10K, or simply the One Mile Fun Run. The run
concludes with food and beverages.
