The Chattooga River is the wild and scenic river that divides South Carolina and Georgia. The Chattooga originates at the base of Whiteside Mountain in North Carolina, a towering 4800 foot granite wall where many creeks and streams converge. The Chattooga’s watershed extends for 180,000 acres, creating the most fantastic ever-changing whitewater river in the area for those seeking a challenge. Not only does the river pose a challenge to whitewater enthusiasts, but it also features a beautiful landscape. Long Creek Falls is best viewed from the river itself, which creates a moment of serenity before rafters embark on the class IV rapids that linger further down the river.

Southeast Expeditions offers whitewater rafting, canoeing in Georgia, and kayaking trips along the Chattooga River in Northeast Georgia. Not only are day trips available for rafting, canoeing, and kayaking, but overnight camping and rafting trips are also offered. Southeast Expeditions is open for rafting seven days a week beginning mid-March through the end of October.

Since 1972, Nantahala Outdoor Center has offered guests with guided North Georgia White Water Rafting adventures among the nine of the East’s best rivers including Nantahala, Chattooga, Ocoee, and Cheoah Rivers. NOC also offers guests canoe and kayak paddling school for those interested in learning to whitewater paddle. All Chattooga River trips depart from their Chattooga River Outpost located just east of Clayton, Georgia.
